Long Term Effects From Sun Exposure

Hyperpigmentation: may appear suddenly, but really is the result of long term, over exposure to the sun.

Broken capillaries: appear as red lines on the face. Repeated sun exposure causes small blood vessels to become permanently dilated and damaged.
Rosacea: appears as red, bumpy skin that blushes easily. This is a chronic skin disorder of excess blood which is characterized by congested capillaries and permanently damaged small blood vessels.
Dehydration: occurs because the “barrier function” of the skin is compromised. This can lead to skin infection.

Short Term Effects From Sun Exposure

Sunburns: range from mild to severe. The skin becomes very red, sore, and sensitive to the touch, caused by dilation of blood vessels and stimulation of nerve endings in the skin. The skin will eventually peel due to the extreme dryness associated with the sunburn. Severe sunburns can cause shock, fever, nausea, and even death.
Mild dark spots: some may fade away after a short time but other spots may lighten up a little and remain unnoticed until many years later.
White spots: are a sun fungal condition, which normally appear on the chest and back.
Free radicals: cause the break down of elastin and collagen in the skin.
Immune System: is suppressed and increases the chance of infection.
